Incredible footage from Prespa, where the census of the Dalmatian Pelican is currently being conducted. This bird is very dear to the locals as well as one of the most sought-after tourist attractions in the area.

A myriad of measures has been taken for the protection of this flagship species in Albania and especially in the Divjaka-Karavasta National Part, as well as raising public awareness on the importance of this important species.

In 2000, this bird colony was on the brink of extinction with only breeding pairs. A major turn took place in 2013, when the colony increased towards a positive trend, reaching 85 breeding pairs in 2020, the highest figure recorded in the past 40 years.
