In a statement for the media today, Tirana’s mayor, Erion Veliaj said that the Socialist Party has secured an overwhelming victory in the region of Berzhita, which is known to have been traditionally right-wing.

He called on DP’s counters to not back down from the counting process and to not delay the announcement of the final results for Sunday’s elections.

“What I want to guarantee for everyone even though we have an extraordinary victory in Berzhita, is that we will continue to serve citizens the same way, those with the left and those right. I want to make another appeal; everyone is tired but I want to remind you that some of our counters are still waiting for their colleagues to return; but you can’t ask for a break after 3 hours of counting.

I want to ask DP’s counters, wake up and return to work, it’s senseless to postpone a result that has already taken its course, everyone should accept the victory,” stated the mayor of Tirana.
