The electronic voting and counting in Tirana’s administrative division no. 10 shows us how elections in Albania could be the same as in developed country, in terms of order and speed. The technology used in CEAZ no. 40 avoided a series of issues that accompany every voting process in Albania.

The fatigue of commissioners, fights or lack of sleep from the ballot counting process were all avoided. This is Tirana’s administrative unit no. 10, which applied the electronic voting and counting for the first time this year. The director of the CEAZ no. 40, Arber Begaj, who was also a commissioner during the 2011 elections, where the counting process was done manually, told Euronews Albania about the immense differences between both processes.

“We avoided the long calvary of ballot counting, paper after paper, the display of legal forms in front of the cameras, which took us such a long time; today, within 24 hours we are done, we know the results, we know who won and we have no more need for the unnecessary debates going on amongst counting teams,”- said Begaj.

Even though the result was published this morning, the electronic counting process only lasted 2-3 hours after the wrap-up of the process. But how reliable is this kind of counting?

“The results are 100% trustworthy, there are no doubts.

“The only issue with this type of voting process, was the adjustment of elderly age groups with the technology, and its application for the first time. This type of voting and counting avoids every problem that has been accompanying the elections in Albania for decades now,”- said Begaj.
