Author of “Me Pak Fjale” on Euronews Albania said on Ilva Now that the problem with clientelist parties is a quite serious one which has yet to find a solution as it distorts the will of the people and democratic standards.
According to Neritan Sejamini, the first to fall under this category was the party of Mark Frroku, established back in 2013 which received 7.800 of the popular votes in Puka and explained that this can be explained through the contacts that Frroku had in the district which secured him a seat in parliament.
“The same phenomenon happened with the party of Tom Doshi. We don’t have elaborate results but most likely his votes are concentrated in a few areas, obviously in Tirana and Shkodra”, claimed Sejamini.
Sejamini said that the most concerning issue with clientelist parties is that when coming to power they fill in public administration posts with their own radical supporters.
“Even the Democratic Party, or the Socialist Party, but above all the Socialist Movement for Integration, seek power to employ their own radical supporters. This is a form of clientelism that we never talk about, but we only get surprised with the clientelism of Tom Doshi or Mark Frroku”, Sejamini said.
