The leader of the Republican Party in Albania, Fatmir Mediu, said on Good Morning Albanians that the Albania’s integration in the EU is at danger from what he referred to as “well organized groups”.
He warned of the risks of Russian influence in the Balkans, as he reiterated “inspired from Albanian and Serbian leaders”
“Edi Rama does not have a European agenda; he has a power agenda. There are certain well organized groups against our country’s integration in the European Union. Russian influence is doing everything it can to impede the integration of Balkan states in Europe”.
At the beginning of the century, Albanians were the most positive factor in relation with the US and the EU, recently things have taken an unfavorable turn for Albania.
“In this geopolitical battle we need to see also other countries, like Ukraine Georgia. Most likely, similar steps will follow for the Balkans, actually inspired by Albanian and Serbian leaders cooperating with each other.
Regarding constitutional amendments, which the opposition referred to as “a breach of the June 5 agreement” Mediu emphasized that he has always been in favor of the open list system as according to him “the fairest thing is for people to elect their own MPs”, but added that the recent changes were a political maneuver of the Prime Minister.
“After the open lists system hides the intent to destroy the civil engagement to topple this regime and which will take away a considerable number of votes from the opposition in the process of raising the electoral threshold or not allowing coalitions”, said the Republican leader.
According to Mediu, this is the right moment for the opposition to take the situation into their own hands and impede at any cost that these changes be voted in the parliament.
“The political action of the opposition right now is crucial. We must not allow that these changes are voted in parliament. We must find all the ways, with the citizens and with the internationals, to stop this frenzy before it is too late”, concluded Mediu.
