Various communieis in Kosovo has chosen different dates for starting schools.

The Gracanica Serbs started the new school year on September 1st, while the Turkish minority chose September 14th.

Albanian schools also started on September 14th.

Gracanica, the community with a Serbian majority, is positioned just 10 kilometers from Prishtina.

With the streets bearing the names of Serbian heroes and posters with pictures of Serbian politicians left over from the neighboring country’s presidential election this September, students are nowhere to be seen.

Unlike all schools in Kosovo where classes started on September 14, in the municipality of Gracanica and all other Serb-majority municipalities, classes started on September 1, based on the curriculum of the Government of Serbia, where school is being conducted online this year.

While Kosovo Serbs do not respect the decisions of the Government in Pristina on educational issues, the situation is different wit other communities, such as the Turkish one.

At the “Elena Gjika” school, in Kosovo’s capital, out of 1600 students who study in Albanian, respecting the curriculum of the Ministry of Education of Kosovo, 197 come from the Turkish community.

“The learning process is going very well, based on instructions, regulations, and based on the protocol we have set. All are at the same level “, says Agnesa Rashiti, deputy director of the “Elena Gjika” school.

The instructions of the teaching protocol established by the Ministry of Education continue to be applied in every class.
