The US Embassy has reacted to the violence perpetrated the day before by the opposition in the Assembly, which ended with the burning of their chairs.
Through a notice posted on the official Facebook page, the US embassy states that such damaging and potentially hurtful acts have no place in the democratic process.
“The US Embassy is deeply concerned about the destruction and force unleashed on the Albanian parliament on Monday. Such damaging and potentially hurtful acts have no place in the democratic process. We encourage all parties involved to exercise restraint, engage in constructive dialogue and embrace the values of respect and citizenship.
We support the peaceful and cooperative discussions related to the negotiations for Albania’s membership in the EU, and we will continue to stand by the Albanian institutions as they work to bring Albania closer to the Euro-Atlantic community,” the US embassy said in a statement.
