These are the main headlines from Friday 25 October

Albanias special prosecutors for corruption have accused Socialist Party deputy Plarent Ndreca of violating equality in tenders. The tenders concerned the construction of 4 police stations commissioned and constructed while he was Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior.

The opposition parties are preparing for a mass protest on October 29. The second large scale protest in two weeks, will take place in Tirana as well as several other cities and will include marches and roadblocks. The reason for the protest is the arrest and detention of opposition leaders and MPs on various charges of corruption which the opposition claim is politically motivated.

The Ministry of Finance is planning to take on a new debt in the foreign market in a bid to reduce public debt. Before the end of the year,
the government will borrow 650 million euros. Albanias current public debt stands at around 12 billion euro as of the end of 2023.

From January to September, 9.8 million foreign and Albanian citizens visited the country according to official data. Some 1.8 million visitors entered in September alone, 9% more than the same time last year

NATO has started training troops in several countries, including Albania. More than 15,000 soldiers are taking part in the military ship exercise called “Neptune Strike 24-2”. Part of the military exercises take place 14 miles away from the Karaburun Peninsula in Vlora.
