Former president and prime minister Ilir Meta, arrested on October 21 on suspicion of corruption has denounced the courts action as illegal. Currently in prison in Tirana, Meta said the investigation can be carried out without him having to be in custody. The Freedom Party led by meta has requested that the Ministry of the Interior informs them of the names of the policemen who carried out the arrest, which meta says was violent and in violation of his rights.

The number of cars circulating in Albania has increased as during the 9 months of 2024, 76 thousand vehicles were registered, an average of 284 per day. Most of them are imported from South Korea, Italy and Germany.

US presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump say that the fight against corruption in the western Balkans will be a priority if they win Tuesday’s election. Trump accused the democrats of neglecting the region while Harris’s said she supports the regions eu integration including that of Macedonians who are currently waiting for negotiations to begin amid an ongoing dispute with Bulgaria.
