The Bank of Albania has taken some measures to contain the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the country’s economy.

In order for the negative effects not to influence on the long-term development of the country, the Bank of Albania will be using some instruments to minimize the consequences of the pandemic in the Albanian economy and financial system.

Following the three month loan payment deferral and the reduction of the key interest rate, the Bank of Albania is now moving further to maintain the monetary and financial stability of the country by increasing the operational capacity to guarantee an uninterrupted supply of the economy with coins and banknotes.

In addition, the Bank of Albania will be producing a new series of banknotes consisting of 2 denominations: 1,000 lek and 10,000 lek, which will be put into circulation within this year.
