The PINK Embassy in Albania officially requested to the Ministry of Justice to abolish discriminatory acts against LGBTI persons by recognizing their rights for civil union, marriage and adopting children.
The request was formally submitted on September 15, based on the ministry’s proposals which are subject to consultation on amending the Adoption Law and the Family Code.
“Social prejudices about marriage in Albania are deeply ingrained in the few remaining laws that are openly discriminatory against LGBTI people”, writes the Pink Embassy in its statement.
The PINK Embassy is a non-profit organization which works for the protection and advancement of LGBTI rights in Albania since 2010.
Dozens of European states guarantee equality in the right for same-sex civil unions or marriages, but this is something that is not being guaranteed in Albania, while LGBTI persons often suffer from discrimination and violence.
