The Ministry and Health and the Institute of Public Health have just confirmed the presence of the ‘Delta’ strain in Albania, after getting back the results of test analyses conducted in Germany.

“From the samples sent to the Institute of Virology – Charite in Berlin, Germany, where the thorough genetic analyses of genome sequences of the virus were conducted, the Delta variant B.1.617.2 came back positive,” stated the Ministry of Health.

Health authorities nationwide state that the presence of the Delta strain coincides with the rise of infections noticed in the past 2 weeks in our country.

The ministry also states that massive vaccination remains the only option to keep the spread of the virus at bay, sending an appeal to citizens to get inoculated at the closest vaccination center, health center, massive vaccination center or mobile vaccination units.

The Delta variant is a highly transmissible form of the virus, which is why compliance with the anti-COVID measures, like social distancing, wearing masks indoors and keeping personal hygiene are crucial in preventing the spread of the virus.

Currently, in Albania there’s been a total of 1.1 million vaccinations, out of which 496 000 citizens, who have received both doses of the anti-COVID vaccine.
