The number of new infections and hospital admissions in Albania due to COVID-19 has seen a considerable rise in recent weeks. In the past 24 hours, 16 new cases were confirmed in our country out of a total of 2.760 tests, yet fortunately no fatalities have been reported.

In addition, deputy health minister, Eugena Tomini stated earlier today that the ‘Delta’ variant has been present in Albania since at least the end of May.

According to Tomini, those infected with this mutation of the coronavirus have created hotbeds of infection for their family members, adding that amongst those infected with this virus are also individuals, who have been vaccinated.

“From the epidemiologic data we have gathered, as well as the investigation of cases, we have confirmed that the ‘Delta’ strain has a history in our country since at least the end of May, 29/05/2021. Around 13 cases have created hotbeds amongst their families,” declared the deputy minister.

Currently, there’s a total of 283 active cases in our country, whereas 11 of them are receiving specialized treatment at Tirana’s Infective Hospital. Meanwhile, 13 citizens recovered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries since the onset of the pandemic in our country to 130,152.
