Numerous police forces surrounded the ‘5 Maj’ neighborhood in Tirana this morning after the government issued an order to demolish several residential buildings in the area.
Authorities claim that these buildings were damaged following the 2019 earthquake that took the lives of 51 citizens.
The police have now surrounded the entire area to avoid possible incidents with the buildings’ residents.
Euronews Albania has learned that several residents have been escorted to the police station due to confrontations with police officers.
Meanwhile, the City Hall had given these residents a deadline, meaning that they should have vacated their homes by today, January 19.
Today, police forces have orders to demolish 3 buildings in this area. Work on other objects will continue over the next several days.
