In 2021, more people died from road traffic accidents than in the previous year. According to INSTAT, in 2021 there were 197 casualties. December was the deadliest month with 21 victims.

Last year turned out deadlier compared to data from 2020, where 181 people died in fatal car crashes, but a considerable decline from 2019 figures where 227 victims were reported.

The overall number of road accidents in 2021 is higher than in 2020 but lower than in 2019 and previous years.

Data from INSTAT shows that last December there were 119 road accidents, compared to 113 in December 2020.

In 85.7% of the cases, it is the driver’s fault, while blame on pedestrians fell on 15.3% of road accidents in 2021.

Compared to 2019, the figure shrunk by 3.7%.

The most common age group is 25–34-year-olds, who account for 25.2% of the overall road accidents, although INSTAT notes that there’s been an 11.8% drop compared to the same data from last year.
