Prime Minister Edi Rama called on Macedonian leaders to accept the proposal of the French president that would resolve the deadlock with Bulgaria.
Rama said on Twitter that the move would pave on opening negotiations for both countries.
“The latest French proposal, which is also the final, gives North Macedonia the opportunity of being accepted without any reservations and opens the way to formally launch accession negotiations for both countries. To my Albanian and Macedonian brothers I say: Accept it!”, wrote Rama.
Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron said a solution had been found for a compromise that could see the veto on North Macedonia being lifted by Bulgaria.
“I can say a compromise has been reached, a compromise that preserves the sensitivity of both parties, and I think it’s acceptable by all. The two parties will confirm this in the upcoming days”, Macron said.
