Foreign minister Olta Xhacka called the recent allegations made against her and her husband by opposition MPs, a mere speculation.
Democrats are accusing Xhacka’s husband of profiting from public funds as a strategic investor in southern Albania thus putting his wife at a direct conflict of interest.
During a press conference with PM Edi Rama earlier today, Xhacka said that neither her nor her husband have ever profited from a public property or public money.
“If you could find a single cm square of public land, or a single cent of public money that I or my husband may have profited, then I would immediately give you a response regarding whether or not our wealth is separate or joined. This is a mere speculation from a few opposition MPs who have lost political context and have thus chosen to have their 15 minutes of fame by attacking me and getting the attention they’re looking for from this press conference which was actually called to discuss several very important developments in the international political arena,’ said Xhacka.
Xhacka’s husband, former MP Artan Gaci, is building a tourist resort in southern Albania under the status of a strategic investor.
