An Albanian MP at the Serbian Parliament warned on Saturday that ethnic Albanians in Presevo are in the midst of deteriorating social conditions. According to Shaip Kamberi, the deployment of special units in the region is pushing investors away, translating into negative economic consequences to the predominantly ethnic Albanian community.

“The special forces deployed there are making investors leave. Due to a lack of security, our diaspora does not feel safe in investing there and this is leading to a depopulation of the Presevo Valley”, claims the Albanian MP.

According to Kamberi, Albania has a crucial role in improving the situation.

“We have continuously called to include the Presevo Valley in the state agenda of Albania and Kosovo, through a state program to halt the depopulation of Albanians. It is a paradox to have amicable relations with Serbia and this not be reflected in the rights of Albanians”, he added.

Albanian students have also been facing increasing challenges for over a decade as their university diplomas are not recognized, with Kamberi declaring that “Serbia is playing by double standards”.

“I would say that Serbia has double standards in its approach to this process. Vucic plays the role of a statesman by signing agreements to become the leader of the Balkans. On the other hand, through his ministers, especially that of the police who is a fascist, he talks about a Serbian world which is a world that has no room for others”, he concluded.
