A brief incident has been reported at a counting station in Durres between former mayor Vangjush Dako and Ferdinant Xhaferaj, candidate of the Democratic Party, right after all ballot boxes had been counted.

Euronews Albania journalist reported that the conflict arose when Vangjush Dako sarcastically raised his hand to salute Xhaferaj, while the latter reminded him that he has been designated “persona non-grata” by the United States.

The gesture sparked a tense situation that escalated into a violent altercation involving their supporters as well.

The situation was put under control shortly thereafter as the two politicians left the premises.
