The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora, has announced that based on the Washington Agreement of September 4th 2020, where the mutual recognition of the Republic of Kosovo and the State of Israel was formalized, it is now opening the doors of its Embassy in Israel, in the controversial city of Jerusalem, whose status is yet to be resolved.

According to the announcement, during the ceremony for the establishment of diplomatic ties on February 1st 2021, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabriel Ashkenazi unveiled the plaque of the Republic of Kosovo’s Embassy in Jerusalem.

While the decision to establish Kosovo’s embassy in Jerusalem was applauded by the US, it was rejected by the EU, which continues to consider Jerusalem’s status unresolved. Turkey was also opposed to this, as was reiterated in Erdogan’s congratulating letter to VV’s leader, Albin Kurti after winning the general elections.
