Glauk Konjufca sworn in as new Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo

Kosovo Parliamentarians voted with 69 votes in favor and 33 against to elect Glauk Konjufca as the new Speaker of the Assembly, as well as 5 deputy speakers proposed by the main parties and minorities.

The deputy speakers of the Assembly voted by 107 MP in favor are Saranda Bogujevci from Self-Determination (VV), Bedri Hamza from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), and Kujtim Shaka from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).

Heading the plenary session, Avni Hedari stressed that Slavko Simic was voted by the Serb community with 91 votes in favor and 6 against, while Bekim Arafi was proposed and voted with the same number of votes by other communities that are not a majority.

Dehari, a senior MP in the assembly, led the Eight legislative constitutive sessions of the Parliament of Kosovo where several lawmakers took over their duties officially, following the February 14 elections.

The Self-Determination Movement won the largest size of votes at the general elections, securing 58 seats in the assembly, followed by PDK (19 mandates), LDK (15 mandates), AAK (8 mandates), Serb List (10 mandates), and 10 MPs from other ethnicities.

This will be a crucial week for the country as it eyes to elect its new president.

Two political parties, namely the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, have declared that they refuse to vote Vjosa Osmani for the head of state.

Meanwhile, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) has yet to make an official announcement and has asked for one-to-one consultations with Osmani.
