Kosovo’s parliamentarians will attend on Thursday an extraordinary plenary session called after single-day cases climbed to over 4,000.

MPs will debate on the management of the epidemiological situation.

On Wednesday, the National Institute of Public Health reported 4,397 new coronavirus cases.

On Wednesday, health minister Rifat Latifi briefed policymakers at the Parliamentary Committee on Health and Social Wellbeing.

According to Latifi, new cases skyrocketed this week, with a majority corresponding to the Omicron variant, but emphasized that hospital admissions remain low.

The health minister warned of shutting down schools if the situation doesn’t improve.

Kosovo introduced new measures on January 22 to tackle rising COVID-19 figures, set to be reviewed in two weeks.

Currently, Kosovo counts over 25,450 active cases.
