US President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday the first sanctions against Russia targeting the sovereign debt as well as members of the Russian elite.
Biden intends to cut Russia off Western funds.
“That means we’ve cut off Russia’s government from Western financing. They can no longer raise money from the West and cannot trade in its new debt on our markets or European markets either,” said the US President.
Biden threatened to slap Russia with even more sanctions if the situation escalates further.
