A crowd of Kosovo Serb citizens gathered on Friday in North Mitrovica to protest against PM Albin Kurti’s decision to prohibit Serbia’s presidential and parliamentary elections from being held on his country’s soil.

“Kurti’s terror must be stopped”, protesters chanted in unison.

Euronews Albania correspondent Kosove Gjoci, reporting live from the protest, said the rally is heading toward northern Mitrovica near the Ibar River bridge, which divides northern and southern parts of the town.

One of the messages conveyed by protesters is ‘No one denies basic human rights in the 21 Century’.

Several Serbian politicians from the government of Kosovo were also seen at the protest, including minister Goran Rakiç who accused Kurti of ‘violating the Brussels agreement’.

The protest was prompted by PM Albin Kurti’s decision to prohibit Serbia’s presidential and parliamentary elections from being held on his country’s soil.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Prishtina has demanded a straightforward request from Belgrade for permission to hold these elections.

On the other hand, that implies Serbia’s de facto recognition of Kosovo.

The Kosovo Serb minority will have to go to Serbia to cast their vote on April 3.
