The Socialist Party has deposited the signatures of several MPs in parliament, for the removal of the President of the Republic Ilir Meta from office, under charges of impeachment under allegations of breaching the Constitution.
This was one of the topics discussed by analysts Andi Bushati and Baton Haxhiu during ‘Shock’ on Euronews Albania.
Analyst Bushati pointed out that this issue was “fabricated” by the majority force in order to hide the problems, which were identified after the April 25th elections.
“After the travesty of April 25th, all we needed was this second travesty in order to turn our political scene into a puppet theater. An investigative commission to discharge the president in my opinion, is completely out of place. These parliamentary commissions are part of a laughable history in Albania, because they have never amounted to anything. The regime is using this for more propaganda. This is all done in order to take the attention away from the real problem of the elections,” said Bushati.
According to analyst Baton Haxhiu, the President of the Republic, Ilir Meta has participated in the electoral campaign by stepping over his constitutional competencies, and should as a consequence be dismissed.
“It is not the parliament that decides upon this, but it does the job of showing that a number of MPs believe through their votes that the president has violated the constitution, and this will be taken to the Constitutional Court, which will then decide if there was a breech or not. This is the legal way. In regards to the political way, the president shouldn’t have waited for the parliament but he should’ve left the presidency. There are 5-6 serious offenses. He has decreed and nullified the elections. He has become part of the campaign, which is forbidden. He has taken a stance against the majority force, and this too is forbidden,” he said.
