North Macedonia prepares for new elections on July 15th

North Macedonia will hold central elections on June 15th, and the electoral campaign is continuing in very unusual conditions, due to the pandemic.

The Albanian Democratic Union for Integration party (BDI) has proposed Naser Ziberi as Prime Minister, participant of the Ochrid Agreement, singed 19 years ago.

BDI had 10 MPs in a 120-seat Parliament during the past term.

The two other Albanian parties, The Alliance for Albanians and the Alternative, this time are running together in a coalition. According to analysts, this could attract votes from other Albanian parties.

The “Besa” movement will run in coalition with the Social Democratic League, while Bilal Kasami will lead the electoral vote in one of the six electoral areas.

The Albanian Democratic Party will run alone, while the North Macedonian Social Democratic League hopes to attract Albanian votes as well, by including Albanian MPs in their lists.

The conservatory VMRO-DPMNE has its hopes on the economic discontent caused by the COVID-19 crisis and the name-changing agreement with Greece.
