The EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi conducted a visit in Sofia and Skopje earlier today, during which he met with the PM of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, the Deputy PM for European matters, Nikola Dimitrov and the Macedonian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bujar Osmani.

Varhelyi emphasized that the opening of membership accession talks for North Macedonia should be a key priority for the EU.

“I hope that the first Intergovernmental Conference could be organized as soon as possible, after the adaptation of the negotiating framework by the Council of the European Union. We will be working closely with the Portuguese presidency regarding this matter” stated Varhelyi, while adding that the continuation of reforms and good relations with neighboring states are crucially important for Skopje.
