The chair of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs Haki Abazi listed two factors behind the loss of Vetevendosje (LVV) at the local elections.

According to Abazi, LVV is more prominent on national issues and is more distant from its electorate on a local level. On the other hand, he noted that LVV acted alone against several opposition forces, referring here to the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Democratic Party (PDK), and the Alliance of the Future of Kosovo (AAK).

“I think we need more time to make a deeper analysis. My first impression is that Vetevendosje has become more distinguished for its engagement on a national level and voters comprehend well its position and shape and how it approaches national themes. Meanwhile, on a national level, we’ve had few actors hence the connection with the citizens has been brief”, said Abazi.

He also spoke over an agreement between the two opposition parties, LDK and PDK, which helped to defeat LVV in Prishtina and Prizren.

“Prizren won Prishtina and Prishtina won Prizren by forming a coalition among old parties which yielded that minimal difference that at the end brought victory”, he said.

The representative of Vetevendosje said that politicians should take notes from the elections, firstly by presenting better candidates, referring to the outcome of the elections in Gjilan, where the youngest candidate defeated Lutfi Haziri, the incumbent mayor from the Democratic League of Kosovo.
