In an interview for Euronews Albania, the spokesperson of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, Orjola Pampuri, stressed that the important thing about the National Assembly is for it to be “unifying”, rather than the date when it will convene.

“It was established that it will take place on December 18. I think the date has very little importance […] This was decided by a majority vote by the Democratic Party’s presidency. I hope the Assembly is above all unifying as it serves to the Albanian people, and the future of the country”, said the Democrat MP.

Pampuri said she hoped that former prime minister Sali Berisha starts to grasp that the date is not important, but what would really matter is to oust PM Edi Rama.

“Division is what Edi Rama wants. He has taken corruption to the highest level, there are abuses on all sectors and finds this terrain very comfortable as he sees an opposition in the midst of an internal debate”, Pampuri said.

She also dismissed arguments that the principle of one member one vote would lead to a rift within the party.
