For analyst Andi Bushati it is ‘ridiculous’ to say that Albania is fighting corruption.

Bushati referred to the procedures with the incinerators where 14 decisions were signed in a single day, asserting that this does not show ‘incapacity’, but a ‘will for theft’.

“Let’s not be ridiculous and let’s tell people the truth. What was Edi Rama saying today? He was saying that he knew about the problems of the tenders, and blamed administrative incapacity and not corruption. But they took 14 decisions in a single day without abiding by tender procedures, and without making a call for national tender. This shows a will for theft, it’s not lack of knowledge on how to do things”, Bushati said.

During the first National Anti-Corruption Conference that took place this Monday, PM Edi Rama said that the tendering process will no longer be carried out by the current relevant authorities, but by external experts.

The Prime Minister blamed ‘administrative incapacity’, rather than corruption, for the lack of professional, transparent, and fair processes.
