Head of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, said that it is in the favor of the current prime minister, to have a divided opposition.
This is why, he added that the opposition forces should be unified in their stance regarding the election of the new president.
“What we need to do, as an opposition, is that we need to make a decision in relation to ourselves. We need to at least be unified in our stance, even if that decision is to not participate in the process at all,” – said Mediu.
According to him, negotiations should be led through the proposal of several names that have been chosen through a common consensus amongst opposition parties, including SMI.
“Taulant Balla cannot dictate who I choose to negotiate with. The Socialist Party can’t dictate that. The issue is that we need to find common ground because in the end it’s the MPs who vote,” – said Mediu.
If this consensus was to be reached, that the Socialist Party wouldn’t have the commodity or the choice to negotiate with several different parties.
Mediu added that the opposition should propose several candidates for president, but not without first consulting amongst themselves, otherwise, there’s no point in them attending the plenum, if they didn’t propose any of the candidates.
