Rama-Sunak meeting in “Downing Street”, the discussions between the two leaders become clear

The government clarified the discussions in the meeting that Prime Minister Edi Rama held today with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Downing Street.

The announcement said, among other things, that the two leaders discussed increased operational cooperation, including joint high-level communications to curb the movement of people in the first place and further agreements on data exchange and passports.

“The two Prime Ministers welcomed the progress made so far, as around 800 illegal immigrants have returned to Albania since December, the actions against organized crime and the new UK guidelines that define Albania as a safe country.

For cooperation in criminal justice, Prime Minister Edi Rama and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak welcomed the following joint work on extraditions, criminal prosecutions and the capacities of forensic medicine and the extradition of hundreds of prisoners based on existing agreements”, the announcement states.

They also agreed that a joint UK-Albanian team will carry out an assessment of Albania’s prison capacity, a process to be completed by the end of April, with the aim of returning all designated Albanian nationals in the UK prison system.
