The Euronews Albania’s preliminary exit poll results in Durres show the positive impact of the government’s earthquake reconstruction efforts, according to journalist Neritan Sejamini.
Commenting on the exit poll results for the district hit most badly by the November 2019 earthquake – SP 42.4-48.4%, DP 37.4-43.4% – Sejamini suggested that the opposition DP would have had a better result in this district if the deadly earthquake had not hit the country.
“Elbasan and Durres would have been similar to Tirana were it not for the specific events happening there. An earthquake occurred in Durres and we have seen that reflected in the exit poll,” he said.
He added that the Durres citizens’ discontent with the government was weakened by the management in the earthquake aftermath, which Sejamini suggested may have cost the opposition 1-2 seats in parliament.
“Discontent with the government in Durres amounts to 60% but when they respond to how the government managed the earthquake aftermath, 605 are content. This could have made the difference of 1-2 parliamentary seats,” he said, adding that the PD would have reached a better result in Durres compared even to Tirana were it not for the earthquake.
