Analysts, journalists, and communication experts shared the panel tonight on Ilva Now to discuss potential scenarios in the post-election period.

Erla Mëhilli, an expert on communication, underlined that the Democrats are going through a crisis following three defeats at the polls.

“I don’t have anything personal against Rama nor Basha. The Democrats are in a crisis. This is the first time that we find ourselves in such a situation with a prime minister winning for the third time and an opposition losing for the third time. We need to undergo a transformation and face the truth as things cannot be solved by ousting Basha and replacing him with another”, said Mëhilli.

While according to analyst Aleksandër Çipa what needs change is the culture and the approach to the elections witnessed in Albania.

“We must escape from this time, from this norm, as three generations have passed”, said Çipa. “Why should our children have the same electoral culture as we do. This is terrible”.

Analyst Adri Nurellari says the Albanian electoral system alters the vote, and took as an example the case of the Socialist Movement for Integration and the Social Democratic Party.

He said that the country is artificially divides into 12 counties creating a disbalanced sort of the voting system.

“We have 107.000 ballots for the SMI which are translated into 4 mandates, but the SDP has 35.000 votes and 3 mandates. That’s triple the amount, so can you please tell me why the vote doesn’t carry the same weight”, asked Nurellari.

According to him, a national proportional system would avoid this phenomenon.

“It was done on purpose to give an advantage to the government and put the opposition at difficulty”, said the analyst.
