On the Fifth of May, Albania annually honors the memory of those who gave their lives for the country\u2019s liberation during World War II, as well as the anniversary of Qemal Stafa\u2019s death, one of the founding members of the Communist Party and part of the resistance groups of the Albanian National Liberation Movement.<\/p>\n

In a Facebook status<\/a>, posted along with a picture of the Qemal Stafa, President Ilir Meta said that \u201ctoday marks the day of thousands of young men and women that gave their lives for Albania\u2019s freedom\u201d. The President emphasized that their memory deserves \u201crespect and gratitude\u201d.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Edi Rama posted<\/a> a picture of \u201cMother Albania\u201d statue found at the National Martyr\u2019s Cemetery in Tirana, captioning it \u201cEternal respect\u201d.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Assembly Gramoz Ru\u00e7i expressed his appreciation to those who fell for the Albanian state and mentioned that the \u201cmartyr\u2019s status\u201d now also includes those citizens who died on duty, natural disasters, democratic rallies or on a NATO military mission.<\/p>\n

Political leaders commemorate Martyr\u2019s Day<\/p>\n

Several facilitations are attributed thanks to the status, such as financial compensation for relatives.<\/p>\n
