This bird is very dear to the locals as well as one of the most sought-after tourist attractions in the area.<\/p>\n<p>A myriad of measures has been taken for the protection of this flagship species in Albania and especially in the Divjaka-Karavasta National Part, as well as raising public awareness on the importance of this important species.<\/p>\n<p>In 2000, this bird colony was on the brink of extinction with only breeding pairs.
