\u2018Protect your life and your wallet by respecting the road code\u2019. This is the new operation launched today by the Traffic Police, aiming to increase the security parameters on the road, as a result of the current situation, where the number of road accidents has escalated significantly.<\/p>\n

Edmond Tarkaj, General Director of the Traffic Police, stated that police officers around the nation have now started to intensify the measures, starting from an increase in roadside checkups and officers all the way to reprimanding drivers caught breaking the law. According to Tarkaj, their main focus will be on weekends, when the influx of cars and vehicles towards coastal areas and tourist destinations is higher.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Traffic Police appeals to all motor vehicle drivers to not drive under the influence of alcohol. During the weekends or holidays, if drivers wish to consume alcohol, the Traffic Police advises them to use other modes of transportation such as taxis, which in any case costs less! Put on your seatbelts and demand that your passengers do the same. Avoid wrong overtaking or passing as well as aggressive behavior on the road. Stay on your lane, when lines are created due to high traffic, getting out of your \u201ccolumn\u201d [lane] will cost you a free \u201cpicture\u201d and a fine combined with the suspension of your driver\u2019s license for several months. Don\u2019t drive your vehicle at speeds that go over the set limit; every violation and going over the speed limit will cost you in the worst-case scenario your life, and in the best-case scenario, a hefty fine,\u201d said Edmond Tarkaj, General Director of the Traffic Police.<\/p>\n

Along with the numerous violations that the traffic police are identifying on a daily basis, something else has become a cause for concern for police officers recently. Euronews Albania has learned that Tirana\u2019s Traffic Police has started to identify that several main road axes around the capital city are presenting issues in their traffic-light timing; something, which should be managed by Tirana\u2019s City Hall. According to police authorities, issues have been noticed in the peaks of rush hour in the morning from 7:00-9:00 a.m., becoming a constant risk for the wellbeing of pedestrians crossing the road and thus should be resolved as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
