The Albanian government has called on all professionals and successful diplomats to apply in becoming members of the diplomatic service that will be representing the country when it takes over the non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council.<\/p>\n
Foreign Affairs Minister Olta Xha\u00e7ka said during a press conference that \u201cAlbania aims to be introduced at the Security Council with a dream team\u201d, implying an invitation to all career diplomats.<\/p>\n
\u201cA team combined with the best and most experienced diplomats from our diplomatic service as well as experts and professionals from every country where Albanians live and work\u201d, said Xha\u00e7ka.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, I would like to make a call today to all boys and girls, men and women, that have succeeded through hardship to build a successful career, to all talented professionals, to apply in becoming a part of our team at the Security Council\u201d, added minister Xha\u00e7ka.<\/p>\n
Applications must be submitted online at the official webpage of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, while candidates will be reviewed by a special commission.<\/p>\n
The UN Security Council is a body that can initiate and pass binding resolutions on UN member states while aiming to preserve peace and security on a global scale. The first meeting took place after World War II.<\/p>\n
The Security Council is composed of 5 permanent members (US, UK, Russia, China, and France) and ten non-permanent states with a two-year mandate (one designated by rule to be an Eastern European country).<\/p>\n
To assure a periodical refreshment of the membership and without undermining the continuance and stability of the Council, every year five new non-permanent members are chosen which replace the preceding five.<\/p>\n
On June 11, the UN General Assembly will decide who will be the country from Eastern Europe, with Albania being the only candidate, and as a result set to become the next non-permanent member for 2022-2023.<\/p>\n
After taking over the OSCE Presidency in 2020, this is Albania\u2019s major diplomatic breakthrough in 65 years.<\/p>\n
