{"id":15072,"date":"2021-06-04T11:10:27","date_gmt":"2021-06-04T09:10:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=15072"},"modified":"2021-06-04T11:10:27","modified_gmt":"2021-06-04T09:10:27","slug":"the-netherlands-against-visa-liberalization-amid-skepticism-on-corruption-fight-reports-local-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/the-netherlands-against-visa-liberalization-amid-skepticism-on-corruption-fight-reports-local-media\/","title":{"rendered":"The Netherlands against visa liberalization amid skepticism on corruption fight, reports local media"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A local media in Kosovo is reporting that among the reasons the Netherlands refuses lifting the visa regime for Kosovo is because it is \u201cnot convinced\u201d in the veracity of the battle against corruption.<\/p>\n<p>KosovaPress cited an exclusive response from the spokesperson of the Netherlands\u00a0Ministry of\u00a0Foreign Affairs, Bo de Koning, which said that the argument offered by Kosovo\u2019s institutions on their fight against corruption \u201chas not been very convincing so far\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the Netherlands, France and Belgium are also skeptical and seek concrete steps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the EU Commission reported on the matter, the Netherlands concluded that the battle against corruption and tackling high-level organized crime was not convincing\u201d, Koning said.<\/p>\n<p>However, the ministry\u2019s spokesperson affirmed that the country remains ready in assisting Kosovo in the visa liberalization process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKosovo can count on our support through projects, advice, and experts in order to achieve consistent results in fighting these phenomena\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, she described the plans of the government of Prime Minister Albin Kurti as \u201cencouraging\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the Netherlands, it is important that high-level corruption is not only criminally prosecuted, but also have an efficient punishment for those responsible.
