On Sunday, the member of the Democratic Party will head to the ballots, but this time to choose whether to keep incumbent Lulzim Basha, or select one of the other three candidates running for the party\u2019s leadership, namely Edith Harxhi, Agron Shehaj, and Fatbardh Kadilli.<\/p>\n

According to a former MP of the Democratic Party, the race has not been equal so far.<\/p>\n

\u201cI appreciate the fact that they were able to organize a race, although there are many claims for irregularities amongst the candidates themselves, in my perception, I\u2019ve always been in favor of having a race, even if it\u2019s unfair\u201d, said Lajla Pernaska.<\/p>\n

But, regardless of the claims, Pernaska says that the Democratic Party really needed an internal competition, especially after losing at the parliamentary polls.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis race is crucial for the current state of the Democratic Party, after receiving a strong blow from losing at the elections. And this blow from the election result makes it even more necessary to have a race to change the leadership. The responsibility of losing at the electoral race falls under the party\u2019s leader and its presidency\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am referring to the race as unequal because it didn\u2019t have that finesse typical of a democracy, which is for a leader to come down, and this is a key element undermining the race\u201d.<\/p>\n

Pernaska also said that the incumbent leader has \u201cself-proclaimed victory\u201d from the moment that he refused to resign and enter the race free of any privileges.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a self-proclaimed winner because he didn\u2019t take even the minimal steps to organize, according to the responsibility bestowed on him, to have a race that is open and with clear rules to all\u201d, said Pernaska.<\/p>\n
