The government of Bulgaria will not be overturning its veto on North Macedonia.<\/p>\n

An announcement released by the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that the government has adopted the decision that will be presented at the Council\u2019s meeting on June 22, where a debate on EU enlargement policies as well as the Stabilization and Association Process is set to take place, prior to making the last amends for the extraordinary meeting of the European Council on June 24-25.<\/p>\n

The Foreign Ministry underlined that it will uphold an earlier declaration of the Bulgarian parliament, where it stated that North Macedonia has not fulfilled the conditions to hold the first Intergovernmental Conference.<\/p>\n

Also, its stance on the negotiating framework remains the same.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Bulgaria said that it remains open to dialogue and is undertaking steps to establish trust and restore a pragmatic and constructive dialogue with North Macedonia.<\/p>\n

The recent development seems to hint that the meeting between the two heads of state in Rome was not able to overcome the stalemate.<\/p>\n

North Macedonia had to modify its name, in order for Greece to lift its veto, but now stands in front of another similar situation, but this time with Bulgaria challenging the country\u2019s language and history.<\/p>\n

Until now, various high EU officials have dismissed the option of a potential decoupling with Albania.<\/p>\n
