The United States has delivered its feasibility study<\/a> for the management of the Ujmani Lake to Kosovo and Serbia.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday U.S. Embassy Pristina, Kosovo & U.S. Embassy Belgrade delivered the U.S. Department of Energy Pacific Northwest National Laboratory report on water management at Ujmani\/Gazivode to the Kosovan and Serbian governments, fulfilling one of the September 4 Washington commitments\u201d, wrote the Embassy on its Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The report proposes to establish a commission tasked to manage the lake\u2019s resources, pointing out the example of the agreement between the US and Canada on the Columbia River.<\/p>\n

The study was conducted by the US Department of Energy, but it stresses that it does not necessarily portray the opinion of the American administration or any of its agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe propose that Serbia and Kosovo take into consideration the US-Canada deal through the Columbia River Treaty for water supply, flood control, and power agencies\u201d, the report said.<\/p>\n

The study is in line with the deal signed at the White House between Kosovo and Serbia in September 2020. Prime Minister Albin Kurti has opposed the agreement, adding that he will refuse its ratification.<\/p>\n

Ujmani is an artificial lake at the Kosovo-Serbia border, created in 1979-1985 when Kosovo was part of former Yugoslavia.<\/p>\n

Currently, the lake is managed by both countries but without a bilateral agreement.<\/p>\n
