With a population of circa 62,000 inhabitants (2001 census), the county was actually named after River Mati flowing in between.<\/p>\n

The Grave of the Turk<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As soon as you cross the Grassland of the Turk, you will find the Grave of the Turk, a destination that has turned into a center of pilgrims. According to locals, the grave belongs to a top functionary of the Ottoman Empire who fell during a battle against the Albanian army.<\/p>\n

The Cape of Skanderbeg<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

According to a narrative of the locals, when Skanderbeg was crossing the path with his army he stumbled upon a ravine, and thanks to his capabilities he hopped beyond it with his horse and since then the rock was named after him.<\/p>\n

The Historical Museum of Mati<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Historical Museum of Mati offers all the historic and ethnographic values of this area. The pavilions are filled with objects from the Neolithic period, and then introduce the Illyrian period of the area, including the characteristic gems worn by the locals at the time.<\/p>\n
