{"id":16716,"date":"2021-07-02T14:20:02","date_gmt":"2021-07-02T12:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=16716"},"modified":"2021-07-02T14:20:02","modified_gmt":"2021-07-02T12:20:02","slug":"kurti-at-the-prespa-forum-the-mini-schengen-initiative-lacks-vision-and-might-turn-into-an-obstacle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/kurti-at-the-prespa-forum-the-mini-schengen-initiative-lacks-vision-and-might-turn-into-an-obstacle\/","title":{"rendered":"Kurti at the Prespa Forum: The mini Schengen initiative lacks vision and might turn into an obstacle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During his word at the Prespa Forum in Ohrid, the PM of Kosovo, Albin Kurti reiterated that he isn\u2019t in favor of the regional initiative known as the Balkans mini Schengen.<\/p>\n<p>Kurti said that such initiatives could turn into an obstacle in the process of joining the European Union family, but also in the process of keeping adequate Transatlantic relations, because according to him, some countries of the Balkan Mini-Schengen support the Russian Federation instead of NATO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we shouldn\u2019t do, in relation to the EU, is run away from our responsibilities through actions that create confusion amongst us and give the possibility to other parties, to take advantage of them. This is exactly what the idea of Novi Sad about the mini-Schengen in the Balkans is,\u201d said PM Kurit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an initiative that lacks vision for the region and as such, Kosovo refuses it strongly and encourages everyone to return to the EU agenda and transatlantic relations. Discontents toward the European Union shouldn\u2019t be instrumentalized, by those countries that aren\u2019t in favor of NATO, or those supporting the Russian Federation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>During his speech, Albin Kurti also expressed his disappointment with the decision of the European Union to not open negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia, saying that this is a discouraging message for the entire region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEU lacks unity, but it is our best hope and only alternative.
