{"id":18221,"date":"2021-07-29T10:21:13","date_gmt":"2021-07-29T08:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=18221"},"modified":"2021-07-29T10:57:36","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T08:57:36","slug":"bashas-defamation-lawsuit-against-mayor-veliaj-postponed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/bashas-defamation-lawsuit-against-mayor-veliaj-postponed\/","title":{"rendered":"Basha\u2019s defamation lawsuit against mayor Veliaj postponed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Special Court convened today for the first time to review a defamation lawsuit filed by the leader of the Democratic Party Lulzim Basha against the Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj.<\/p>\n<p>However, the trial was postponed to September, after Basha refused the conciliation hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Veliaj did not attend the hearing and was represented by his attorney.<\/p>\n<p>The High Court ruled that the trial fell under the competencies of the Special Court against Corruption after the latter initially said it did not have the authority.<\/p>\n<p>Basha sued Veliaj for defamation in October 2020.
