The Ambassador of North Macedonia to Tirana, Dancho Markovski, in an interview with Euronews Albania\u2019s anchor Loneta Progni on Wednesday spoke about bilateral ties, his stance on the Open Balkan initiative, and EU integration.<\/p>\n

According to ambassador Markovski, the weakest link between the two countries is trade and economic cooperation.<\/p>\n

\u2018The weakest point which I am not satisfied with is economic and trade cooperation,’ he stated.<\/p>\n

However, when asked about the Open Balkan, an initiative previously dubbed as \u201cmini-Schengen\u201d, the ambassador of North Macedonia argued why it is a good step and compared it to the Four Freedoms of the European Single Market.<\/p>\n

\u2018Someone might say: \u201cNo, don\u2019t do it because the Macedonian economy or Albanian companies will suffer because Serbia is bigger. I will give a clear answer to those critics. If North Macedonia or Albania are afraid that someone will harm the economy or the companies, why are we then looking to enter the EU, where there are many more developed countries\u201d, asked Markovski.<\/p>\n

In addition, he referred to EU integration as a \u201cnever-ending story\u201d, adding that although both countries have fulfilled the criteria the bloc has continuously postponed the date for the accession negotiations.<\/p>\n
