The first session of the tenth legislative of the Albanian Assembly will convene on Friday at 10 AM.<\/p>\n

The ruling majority is coming back to parliament for a third consecutive term, a first in the country\u2019s pluralist history. In the last polls, the Socialist Party, led by Edi Rama, won 74 MPs, the same as in the 2017 elections. DP and its coalition were able to win 59 seats in parliament, the Socialist Movement for Integration 4, and 3 went from the Social Democrats of Tom Doshi.<\/p>\n

74 out of the 140 MPs in the new legislation are men, while 39 are women. The Socialists are bringing forty-six men and twenty-nine women to the parliament, whereas from the Democrats forty-two are men and seventeen are women.<\/p>\n

As per the Constitution, the first plenary session must convene with a speech from the eldest elected MP. According to data provided by the Institute of Political Studies (ISP), it will be Luljeta Bozo, an MP elected under the banner of the Socialists.<\/p>\n

However, if the 79-year-old refuses to do so, next in line is Sali Berisha, the Albanian former prime minister who will be 76 in October.<\/p>\n

According to ISP, this will be the fifth time that the Speaker of the Assembly comes from the Socialist Party, after Gramoz Ruci, Kastriot Islami, Namik Dokle, and Servet Pellumbi.<\/p>\n

The new speaker, Lindita Nikolla, will become the second woman to hold that position, after Jozefina Topalli (2005-2013) from the Democrats.<\/p>\n

Sixty-four out of 140 MPs will be sitting in parliament for the first time, of these 31 are from the Socialist Party and 29 from the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n

Twenty-five out of sixty-four new lawmakers are women, more specifically 13 from the SP, 10 from the DP, and 1 from the SDP.<\/p>\n

In total, five elected MPs renounced their mandate prior to the formation of the new parliament, namely Tom Doshi (SDP), Gramoz Ruci (SP), Najada Como (SP), and Lefter Koka (SP).<\/p>\n
