As a result of the vetting process, almost every court was left with vacant posts, forcing the executive organ of the judiciary to think about compiling a new judicial map on how courts in the country will be functioning.<\/p>\n

Seen as something of imperative importance, as well as sought by foreign missions assisting the justice system, the new judicial map is on its way to get a green light soon.<\/p>\n

The preliminary proposal of the High Judicial Council sees a good proportion of first instance and appeal courts melting into a single one, but the governing body of the judiciary and the executive have yet to find a common language over the matter.<\/p>\n

Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja said that the new judicial map will be soon sent to the Justice Ministry, after having gone through several revisions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will need to have a new judicial map which will help fill in the vacant posts in the judicial system, but without undermining accessibility to citizens\u201d, said Manja.<\/p>\n

The new judicial map has also been sought for by the Head of the EU Delegation to Albania, Luigi Soreca, who declared that there are several important cases that must be taken up with priority.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe justice reform is bringing concrete results that would have been unimaginable several years ago, for example, the fact that we have 23 criminal processes against 23 former judges that were ousted by the vetting process\u201d, said the EU Ambassador.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are several very important cases that need to be handled with urgency\u201d, emphasized Ambassador Soreca.<\/p>\n

The justice minister noted that a tangible proposal to extend the mandate of the Independent Qualification Commission will be delivered to the Assembly, which will seek constitutional amendments, adding that the opposition and international partners have already been negotiating on it.<\/p>\n
