{"id":22424,"date":"2021-10-13T13:10:11","date_gmt":"2021-10-13T11:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=22424"},"modified":"2021-10-13T13:12:48","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T11:12:48","slug":"discord-over-public-debt-government-aims-to-take-it-down-to-60-by-end-of-term-imf-unrealistic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/discord-over-public-debt-government-aims-to-take-it-down-to-60-by-end-of-term-imf-unrealistic\/","title":{"rendered":"Discord over public debt, Government aims to take it down to 60% by end of term, IMF: Unrealistic \u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nowadays, Albania has the highest level of public debt in the region and one of the highest in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>The pandemic, the economic crisis as well as the reconstruction program following the 2019 earthquake, have led to a significant increase in government debt through all of last year, which brought up the total national debt by 10 percentage points compared to 2019.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ministry of finance, public debt has reached 76% of the national GDP, whereas both the Central Bank and IMF (International Monetary Fund) say that it\u2019s closer to 80%.<\/p>\n<p>In the latest IMF report, it states that our overall government debt is said to have reached around 80% of our GDP, by the end of 2021.
