The top three institutions listed as the most trustworthy by Albanian citizens were foreign, according to the survey Barometer. Tonight\u2019s panel discussed the reasons behind why Albanians tend to have more faith in foreign, rather than domestic, institutions.<\/p>\n

According to legal expert Dardan Mustafaj, the fact that Albanians have more trust in the international community indicates \u201ca low democratic culture\u201d in looking for hope from the international rather than themselves.<\/p>\n

Mustafaj considered the finding as a failure of the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cEight years ago, Edi Rama vowed to build a state, but now, eight years after, Albanians have once again hanged their hopes to foreigners\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

Political scientist Blerjana Bino argued that the reason why Albanians have more trust in the international community is due to continuous disappointments from their governments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey see as models of democracy the United States and the European Union\u201d, she said.<\/p>\n

She also stressed that political problems must be solved domestically.<\/p>\n

Edlira Gjoni had another approach, linking migration as the main reason why citizens trust the US and the EU on such a large scale.<\/p>\n

Blendi Ceka referred to it as a \u201cform of institutional dependency\u201d, as he hinted at the Venice Commission.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is unjustifiable that for every issue we tend to completely exclude our own judicial system and look for consultations from the Venice Commission\u201d<\/p>\n
